Junior Industrial Designer

We are seeking a talented and creative junior-level Industrial Designer to join our team. In this role, you will report to the Product Director and be responsible for the design of a wide range of products, from concept through to production-ready state. You will work closely with our in-house team and our external factory network to create innovative, functional, and executable product designs that meet the needs of our customers.

You will also contribute to CMF creation for the TJB product line. You will work directly with factory-based engineers and material suppliers. You will also work alongside external industrial design resources that we may engage with on various design initiatives.

You’ll work closely with Product Director to ensure the end-product is an accurate execution of product design intent and that it delivers against commercial objectives. You will recommend enhancements, construction, and material options to elevate the TJB brand, while also hitting financial objectives. You will provide hand-off of complete design tech-packs according to the product development timeline, on-time and accurate. You’ll review all prototypes and samples to ensure accurate execution of design intent. You will strive to maintain all brand standards ensuring consistency from product to product.

The ideal candidate for us would have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design.
  • 1-3 years of Product Design experience
  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates exceptional design skill, problem solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Aptitude for defining and refining the product design creation process
  • Proficient in CAD software (Solidworks, Rhino or Fusion 360 preferred)
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite software (Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign, etc.)
  • Adept in rendering 3D visuals (e.g. with Keyshot)
  • Familiarity with hardgoods manufacturing processes like CNC machining, molding, stamping, extrusion, forging, etc. is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Project management & timeline management experience is preferred.
  • Willing to roll-up the sleeves and do whatever is needed to bring a product to market, on time, in full and accurate.
  • Consumer-focused and market driven. Consistently curious and seeking market insights and consumer behavior insights.
  • Zest for start-up life and wearing lots of hats. Desire to build and be a part of a great team.

  • Must be able to travel internationally and domestically.

Location

  • This role is based in Portland, OR or in Oceanside, CA.
  • This role is not hybrid or remote. This is an in-office role. We are a small team, collaborating deeply each day and our products are tangible things that we need to handle and interact with, together, in-person, in the office.
